Group - Concept Development
Over the past week our concept has developed steadily and we are now entering the planning stages for our music video, in addition to the research we are doing.
Thanks to our research over the past week we have come to the following conclusions:

- The location should be grand and glamorous if it is to effectively take influence from the other existing Electro-Swing videos we have been studying. This is a common factor in many of the videos we've analysed. Examples of these locations include ballrooms, theatres and bars.
- Freya continued our research into possible local locations, which has led to us inquiring into the availability of the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells. At the time of writing this we are still awaiting a reply from the management team at the Trinity. This location is ideal for us as it is local, with an interior aesthetic that blends the desired 1920's elegance with a slightly gothic feel, which would support our vampire narrative.
- Another point we gathered from our research is that music videos for Electro-Swing music are often given strong colour grading in post production. This seems to be to enhance the particular atmosphere they are trying to portray, for example some of Caro Emerald's videos are coloured much warmer to give an inviting 1920's glamour vibe.
- On the subject of colour, we also found a common pattern in which videos for this genre are often in greyscale, sometimes with a colour wash, and often feature the colour red in addition to the black, white and grey.
- The last point also rings true for animated segments in the videos, where the colours used reflect the period setting of the videos.

This sounds really good. As soon as we can secure our location we can further our production pace. The colouring idea is good too, especially because the red (as well as black and white) will fit well with our vampire concept idea.
ReplyDeleteYeah I think that was probably the most helpful thing we've researched so far, its interesting that so many of the videos for this genre include that colour scheme. It really would work well with our concept you've got a good point there.
