F.L - Reflection on Shoot #1

Shoot Reflection

Shoot #1 - Eleanor's House (AL2)

  • At this shoot I primarily worked on lighting and managing the fog machine. This involved ensuring each shot was lit well, as well as making sure it looks natural - so I moved the lights and held them in appropriate places. I also used walls and the ceiling in a few shots so the light bounced of the walls, giving a more natural look. For the fog machine I simply filled the room with fog when appropriate and necessary.
  • Although I primarily helped with the other parts of the shooting, I did do some filming when we were in our outside location. This involved using the shoulder rig to film some shots of Harry and Eleanor. We all contributed ideas to shot positioning and angles so that we were all included and discussed the different ideas we had, this ensured that final outcome matched our intentions and we all successfully contributed. We used a variety of different shots and movements, including some panning, tracking and crabbing shots. We wanted to use both static and movement shots in order to keep it visually interesting.
  • The overall location of Eleanor's house was extremely fitting and worked well with our 1920s aesthetic. We also used a woodland area near her house for the shots of her running to the concert, this is where she bumps into Harry. Although we were originally meant to be filming on the streets, we thought it would fit with our period setting more if we avoided modern houses and cars etc.
  • Some issues that occurred were mainly small details, such as getting Eleanor's fangs to mould and creating a blood stained handkerchief. However, we all helped to try and progress these issues quickly, which avoided wasting too much time and we could quickly carry on with the shots necessary.
  • I feel this shoot went well and we got all the footage that we needed, and stuck with the storyboard quite closely. However, we left the outside shoots until last which led us to be slightly pushed for time near the end because we needed it to be day time in the shoots (and the sun was beginning to set), therefore we had to rush slightly. Nevertheless, we got all the shots we needed and were very pleased with the overall outcome.
